I’m a 1980 baby so I love this topic, and you’re right, our kids are so different…I had to wait weeks for things to come in the mail after my mom ordered from the JCPenney catalog and now my son practically snaps his fingers and toys are at our door :/ This is a great piece, thank you!

At some point in the future I'd like to do an anthology of these with different authors and all sorts of Gen X experiences from all sides of the tracks. Funny stuff and highly relatable. No controversy, just ridiculousness. A cross between Mad magazine 🤭and Walden levels of reflection 🤔 slapped in a cool human-illustrated book. I think we still had a lot of this as millennials too lol. Half the fun wasn’t even the toy, it was turning random shit around the house into whatever world you needed. I did a lot of that secretly in my basement because I had a stepdad who hated me, but I guess imagination gave me somewhere else to go. 😂 As a dad now, this made me think about my own kids. They can build entire worlds on a screen in ways we never could, but I do wonder what gets lost when the world doesn’t have to be built in your head first. Really liked where you took this. Thank you Destin. Truly. Being a millennial loses you no points in my book. I aim to understand and vibe with all generations, while representing mine. I honestly think it’s a timeless principle. The oversell has been happening even before 80s commercials and after them. They were just done so egregiously in the 80s. Zero ethical qualms. But in the end they hooked us up. They got our Kodachrome up and running. For that I’m grateful.
